STUDENT QUESTION
What does a software tester do?
SHORT ANSWER
Finds the bugs before users do. A tester checks that an app works the way it should, tries to break it on purpose, and writes up what went wrong so it gets fixed.
Over chaiProfessionally annoying. They press every button twice, just to see what breaks.
A LITTLE MORE
A little more detail.
- Manual testingUsing the app like a real person, step by step, from a written test plan. What happens with a wrong OTP? What if you go back halfway through a payment? What if your little cousin gets the phone?
- Automated testingSmall scripts that repeat the same checks every time the app changes, with tools like Selenium and Postman.
- Bug reportsClear reports in a tool like JIRA, so developers can see the problem and fix it. "It is not working" is not a bug report.
- Who it suitsPeople who notice small details and like asking "what if?". Software Testing starts from zero coding.
